Fuel from Biowaste
The previous year, U.S. military user over 5 billion gallons of petroleum fuel. It gets more costly and time consuming when fuel are transported to battlefield or any remote military base. So now the U.S. Defense Department is open to use more secure, cheaper and easily available ways.
Diversified Energy and Velocys recently working together to make a portable system which can convert biowaste, natural gas and coal into jet fuel and diesel. So that theĀ military could then use the system to convert waste created (food scraps, paper, wood) at military bases into a fuel for the use of military jets and vehicles.
Converting biowaste products into fuel at military bases is the only answer to two problems that the military faces right now. The portable systems can be transported to the base where they need the fuel.
So far, the companies involved in this project have only done lab tests. They are now planning to put take their idea a step forward and analyze whether this will meet the military’s requirements. They then, will have to compete with other companies to develop the system and commercialize.
